Plant it in partial or full shade in moist but well drained, humus rich soil, and it will also grow happily in a patio container, a rock garden, a border edge or under shrubs. It scorches and flags in hot sun or dry soil, so keep it watered in a dry spell. Slugs, aphids and vine weevil in pots are the usual problems.
