Brown Turkey is widely regarded as one of the toughest, hardiest and easiest varieties to grow in the UK, providing reliable crops of delicious fresh figs, that of course if you had to buy them in the shops would cost a small fortune. With highly ornamental glossy, palmate leaves, it will do best when grown in a south or south-west facing aspect where it will produce its abundant crop of purple-brown, pear-shaped fruit with red flesh. These figs are rich and sweet and suitable for picking from August to September after long hot summers in particular. An interesting and easy plant to grow, and one of the oldest fruits in cultivation.
