Saxifraga 'Dancing Pixies Toni' (Autumn Saxifrage) – Shade Loving Evergreen Perennial (1.5L Pot)
Saxifraga 'Dancing Pixies Toni' is a hardy autumn saxifrage that lights up a shady corner with delicate sprays of small, star-shaped pink flowers on slender, arching stems. It is part of the popular Dancing Pixies series, and it flowers from late summer through autumn, when most shade plants have finished.
It forms a low clump of rounded, scalloped, evergreen leaves, which gives it a neat, airy look. It is a good choice for shaded borders, woodland corners, underplanting shrubs and containers. It is not one of the spring flowering mossy saxifrages, so it prefers shade and moist soil to a sunny, gritty rockery.
It arrives as an established plant in a 1.5 litre pot, ready to plant. Choose a sheltered spot in partial or full shade, out of cold wind and harsh afternoon sun, in moist but well drained, humus rich soil. Water regularly in dry spells, especially in the first season, and give container plants good drainage. Mulching in autumn helps protect the roots, and the clump can be divided in early spring if it outgrows its space.
