Saxifraga 'Dancing Pixies Taja' (Autumn Flowering Saxifrage) – Shade Loving Evergreen Perennial (1.5L Pot)
Saxifrage 'Dancing Pixies Taja' is a compact, evergreen woodland perennial that lights up a shady corner with sprays of starry flowers on slender stems from late summer into autumn. It belongs to the Dancing Pixies series of autumn flowering saxifrages (Saxifraga cortusifolia and S. fortunei hybrids).
It forms a low clump of rounded, scalloped leaves that stays attractive through the year and makes good ground cover under shrubs and along the front of a shaded border. This is not one of the spring flowering, sun loving rockery saxifrages: it prefers partial or full shade and a sheltered spot out of cold wind.
It is supplied in a 1.5 litre pot, ready to plant into a shady border, a woodland planting or a patio container. Choose moist but well drained, humus rich soil and keep it watered in dry spells, as the leaves scorch and flag in hot sun or dry ground. It is hardy in most of Britain, but a sheltered position helps protect the late flowers from an early hard frost.
Care is easy. Remove spent flower stems once they fade and watch for slugs, aphids and vine weevil, particularly on plants in pots.
